From the Desk of Dr Judy Esmond

Dear Colleague,

At the end of the last year, we conducted a poll and asked all our subscribers to our numerous websites, newsletters and training programs one question "what is your biggest challenge in 2012"?

After studying all the responses from thousands of our subscribers based in government departments, educational facilities, local councils, non-profit organizations, businesses and volunteering programs, certain challenges dominated. So having facilitated hundreds of workshops around Australia and internationally and using my expertise as a leading authority in the study of human behaviour, I wanted to design powerful training workshops addressing these challenges. With my team, we have designed two NEW workshops, to meet these challenges and to help everyone to deal with...

  "The Biggest Challenges of 2012"

We know your time is valuable so we don't waste a minute on boring, outdated ideas. We've developed two concise and concentrated half-day workshops in just one day that capture the 'key' strategies and techniques to effectively handle these challenges.

So what are these biggest challenges? Well the results are in! When analysed they fell into two main areas and so two powerful workshops.

Let's discover what are the biggest challenges in the fast-paced Workshop 1...

For all those involved in working with people, we combined the main areas of challenge into what we've called the 3Cs Workshop and they are...

3Cs - Change, Conflict and Communication
Workshop 1 : 9 to 12 pm

This workshop is for everyone based in government departments, local councils, educational facilities, non-profit organisations, small business or volunteer programs. This workshop aims to effectively manage issues relating to change and dealing with people that are major challenges in 2012.  People had questions such as: How do you deal successfully with change? Where do you focus your energy and resources in times of change? How do you deal with the demands of multiple stakeholders in a program? How do you effectively handle conflict that may involve staff, managers, colleagues, clients, customers or volunteers? How do you communicate most successfully with others?

So to answer these and other questions, we've designed a powerful half-day workshop that will focus on the 'key' strategies and skills to ensure your increasing success in managing change and dealing with other people.  In this morning workshop you will learn...

How understanding the change curve will guarantee your own success and that of others.

How to use the stakeholder analysis model to focus your time, energy and resources.

Why the 7 SCHEMES strategy should be used in all action planning.

What technological changes are worth your effort and what to ignore as just a waste of time.

Understand the PEST 4-part model to successfully handle future change.

Why the concept of best practice can spell disaster for many programs and projects and what to do about it.

How to use the most critical strategies in handling conflict with people, anywhere and anytime.

Understand the types of people who don't want to resolve conflict and what to do about them.

How to use the 4 Square technique to help solve difficult situations and deal with difficult people.

10 communication steps in giving and receiving effective feedback and overcoming negativity.

The top 15 tips directly from those in the field on communicating effectively with others.

In just 3 hours you'll gain so many more strategies and techniques that you can immediately put into practice in whatever your role in a government department, council, non-profit, small business or volunteering setting.

Now let's explore what are the biggest challenges in the content-rich Workshop 2...

For all those involved in working with people and specifically volunteers, we've combined the main areas of challenge into what we call the 3Rs Workshop and they are...

  3Rs - Recruit, Retain & Recognise Volunteers

Workshop 2 : 1 to 4 pm

For everyone in a wide range of government, councils, non-profits and groups specifically dealing with volunteers, having more effective ideas and ways to recruit, retain and recognize even more volunteers remain the main challenges in 2012. For many, what worked in the past to recruit and retain volunteers is no longer working as well. So many questions from people revolved around: What new and effective strategies can we use to successfully recruit, retain and recognise more volunteers?

So you asked for it, we designed it! A second exciting half-day afternoon workshop where you can discover...

3 powerful models for volunteer recruitment and knowing which model to use in different situations.

A new model for utilising one-off and short-term volunteers to convert more to long-term volunteers.

Why the largest welfare and emergency management organizations have got it wrong when volunteer numbers decline.

The most powerful technique to ensure that senior management understands volunteers.

Why most of social media is hype and a waste of time and what are the 4 areas only to focus on to get results.

How even the smallest volunteering group can now compete with the biggest organizations.

Just what are Baby Boomers, Generation Y, X and Z looking for from volunteering.

What are most important leadership skills you need in dealing with volunteers.

The importance of exit research for retention and what questions you should always ask.

How to develop unexpected recognition as one of your most powerful retention tool.

The top 15 tips direct from those in the field on recognising and appreciating volunteers.

In only 3 hours you will leave with so many new ideas and practical strategies that will help you focus your time, energy and resources to recruit, retain and recognize even more volunteers.

You can print out all 10 pages or click here and download a 2 page summary of the workshops and enrolment details

If you are also aiming to recruit, retain and recognise even more volunteers then also join me at the 3Rs Workshop 2 as well. As a leading expert in the study of human behaviour, team building and also volunteering, I am always excited to continue to discover and present to you practical strategies and techniques that you can put into action immediately. But what do people really think about our training programs? Here's a sample of unsolicited emails we've received from past participants...

Thank you for the additional resources and the workshop. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the day – however I came away with more practical tips than I have from any workshop I have attended for years. Thank you once again. -- Julie Bignell, CEO, Life's for Living, South Australia

Hi Judy, just letting you know that I attended your workshop and I am still raving to others I meet about the brilliance of your delivery style and how engrossed I was throughout the entirety of the day. Congrats on a job well done. Your enthusiasm and vitality for your work was inspiring. Brilliant stuff. -- Carol Allen, Disability Services Queensland

Judy thank you for the whole experience. You clearly practice what you preach - I can say quite categorically that I have never received such value out of a training seminar as that from this one I attended recently. It was a great, truly involving and your follow up is second to none (and I've been to many seminars here and in the US, Canada and the UK). The material was comprehensive, accessible (and by that I mean useable and applicable to real situations) and very "human", very empowering. I've changed the way I think about my own business plans as a result of the session. I've also spoken to many people about the principles you highlighted in the time since the seminar, and I guess that's testament to the impact it's had on me. Many thanks. -- Ivan Levacic, Business Entrepreneur, Victoria

Hi Judy, I attended your workshop in July in Perth and thought it was fantastic and really helpful. I found it to be a really exciting and interactive workshop. Thankyou! -- Samantha Durling, Scitech Western Australia

Hi Judy, your workshop is THE best Professional Learning I have been to this year. The practical strategies portrayed in visual manner, delivered with your wonderful sense of humour made it memorable and enjoyable. The packages you offer as follow up support are amazing and I thoroughly recommend them! -- Jodie Norwell, Canning Vale College, Western Australia

Thank you for your workshop – it was one of the most motivating, inspirational and exciting (yes, even workshops can be exciting!) days and it was definitely worth the 4 hours travel to attend. Thanks -- Karen Burton, Great Lakes Neighbour Aid, New South Wales

The development of leadership skills in our expert clinicians was a critical ingredient in the restructure of Silver Chain’s Health Services. Judy Esmond was contracted to provide tools and skills. Judy achieved the goal of this workshop in spades. She immediately engaged these practical people with practical advice that went to the heart of the tasks that they face on a day to day basis. Judy gave them information, examples, activities and practical tools to influence those they supervise. And it was fun and energising -- Stephen Carmody, General Manager Health, Silver Chain, Western Australia

Hello Judy, fantastic presentation and extremely valuable in content and your professional delivery to connect with us and get us thinking moving in the right direction. Many thanks. -- Julie Francis, SA Fire & Emergency Services Commission, South Australia

Hi Judy, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you very much for all the tireless inspiration. I have extremely enjoyed attending your workshops over the years and have to tell you that without doubt they have been the best workshops I have ever attended in my working career that spans 40 years.-- Darryl Shatte, Victorian Safety House, Victoria

Judy - I would just like to say thankyou so much for a wonderful and inspiring seminar yesterday.  My staff loved the paper game, do you have any other cool team building games for me? It would be great to do one once a fortnight. I loved every moment of the seminar. Thanks again -- Sarah Ogden, Grantham Street Veterinary Clinic, Western Australia

Dear Judy, I really did appreciate your presentation. This is the second time that I have heard you and I have been very impressed with your style of communication, the way that you communicate with simplicity so people understand what are often very complex issues, the level of creativity and relevance in application and of course your sense of humour! -- Vanessa M. Leane, St John Ambulance, South Australia
